We’re working towards an inclusive society where equality and human rights are respected and no individual or minority group is singled out for negative, unfair or abusive treatment;

We’re proud of the progress we’ve made on equality in Scotland, but we aren’t complacent. The Scottish Government continues to work hard to promote equality and tackle discrimination and prejudice where it still exists. First Minister’s National Advisory Council on Women and Girls

The First Minister’s National Advisory Council on Women and Girls (NACWG) provides advice and challenge to the First Minister on how Scotland can become a truly equal society where all women and girls can reach their true potential.

Human Rights

Human rights are the basic protections and freedoms we all have. They’re based on core principles like dignity, fairness, equality, respect and autonomy. Read more about your rights in Scotland.

50/50 by 2020

Equality and diversity are key to Scotland’s success. We want to see public, private and third sector boards better reflect the communities they serve, with no ceiling for ambition and talent.

Gender

The Scottish Government is working to reduce and, ultimately, remove the barriers to equality faced by woman and men in Scotland. Read more about gender equality issues including gender based violence.

Disability

Around one fifth of Scotland’s population define themselves as disabled. Read more about the Scottish Government’s commitment to equality for disabled people.

LGBTI
